Social media has been a big part of today’s ever-changing world. Users can now share their thoughts and opinions on the internet, in real-time. Organizations have realized the value of social media as well, and are using these platforms to spread information, gather feedback, recruit employees, and much more.
This article will cover what social media is and how it is helping people connect across the world. It will then go on to explain the benefits of social media in terms of industry, business organization, and personal use. This article will turn out to be a godsend for you if you understand clearly what it is trying to communicate and implement the course of action so vividly laid out.
Let’s first answer the most important question, what is social media?
Social media is any digital tool that allows users to quickly create and share content with the public. Social media encompasses a wide range of websites and apps. Some, like Twitter, specialize in sharing links and short written messages. Others, like Instagram and TikTok, are built to optimize the sharing of photos and videos.
What makes social media unique is that it is both broad and relatively uncensored. While many social media companies impose some limitations—such as taking down images that display violence or nudity—there are much fewer limitations on what someone can share than there are with other means of mass communication like newspapers, radio stations, and television channels.
Anyone with internet access can sign up for a social media account. They can use that account to share whatever content they choose to, and the content they share reaches anyone who visits their page or profile.
Let’s get into the main idea straight away now. Here are the 7 ways to leverage Social Media to your advantage.
Learn to Market yourself
The smartest way for you to get started with your social media is to put yourself out there now. The sooner the better. You don’t want to procrastinate a lot and worry about how you are going to come across or what people are going to think. If you believe in something and you feel it needs to be given a voice then be that voice and have confidence in yourself. Some easier ways to move forward will be to think about What do you like to do, what do you believe in, what are some of your values, what are your interests, and most importantly what should you be known for. Come up with a Mission Statement and stick to it till the very end until it doesn’t need to be said anymore.
Start acquiring some Skills
Let me put this to rest once and for all people who said there is no shortcut to life and you have to work for anything and everything are actually right and if you’ve been thinking the other way round then I am sorry to burst your bubble ou need to snap out this dream world of yours and start taking everything seriously. People who think they will just learn it on the job are only partly right. Lebron James the world class basketball player didn’t just become one of the greats by learning to play basketball on the court, it’s what he learnt off court that made him successful. So grow up, start looking for some courses and get to it. YouTube, Coursera, Udemy, Kraftshala, VidIQ and there are probably hundreds more for you to start learning social media marketing skills. So don’t wait up.
Stay Updated & Informed
There is no alternative to being an avid reader. But since I have come across a lot of people who have told me that they can’t sit and read a book for a good amount of time, my advice to them would be to start listening to engaging podcasts, or follow a profile or blog that provides short form content but keeps you interested. But the best out would be Twitter. Barring all the other things that go down on the platform, it can really be an informant of all the recent trends and the buzz that you need to be updated on.
Connect to People
It’s a new digital age where you can connect with anyone and everyone online from the comfort of your own home so why hold back. The First thing that you think of when you think of social media is connecting and reaching out to your friends. That’s perfectly fine but widen your horizon, don’t just limit yourself to your friends and relatives. Reach out to people who you think can help you, inspire you and even motivate you to do better and much more. The more you get outside of your shell and comfort zone the more you will feel better about yourself. And it will lead to great things because you will learn to network and my friend is going to reap you profits till the end of time, trust me.
Starting alone isn’t the only tuff part of doing something new. People always tend to forget that even after taking that leap of faith they still need to go back to it again and again. You can’t always be motivated every day of the week, and I know that but you see that is what you would need to overcome and give your best even after you feel that you’re completely drained. So how can you do that? The answer is to plan, strategize and stick to it no matter how tough it gets. I know first hand how difficult it can be but trust me when I say this that you are only getting to read this article because I was strict with myself in the start and now it is like the snap of a finger. So please trust the process.
I know you must have heard this a lot and think that, “here is another guy just telling us to be ourselves!”, but trust me it actually works. Ask or listen to any of the major social media personalities out there or basically anyone who has made it big in the industry. They all are going to say the same thing. The minute they became true to themselves, they grew exponentially. That is what we are setting out to achieve here. Also it never hurts anyone to take a page from the playbook of a seasoned player. My second advice under this would be to figure out your personal brand. Yes you read that right. You need to make and figure out your own personal brand. Start by thinking what do you want people to think the minute they read or see your name and then go on to develop from there.
Carve out your own Space
The last piece of advice or tip that I have for you is to try and figure out your own space in the community. Don’t try to hog someone else’s space instead why not create your own. This point goes back to my previous one which was to “Be You”. The minute you accept that you want to build your community within the larger one of the social media you try to connect more, you trust more, and you also get trusted more. This in turn builds value. This along with your content is going to set you apart from all the clutter out there. Trust me the minute someone accepts who they are and what they want to be, this world becomes a better place.
